The Star (1953-1957)
DESCRIPTION
Scope and Contents
The Star had its origins among a group of boys from Woollahra Central School who, in 1950, started a class newspaper under their class teacher, Mr Riley. (Mr Riley subsequently became School Counsellor at High.)
After they arrived at High, in 1952, the boys continued a class newspaper. In 1953, it became “The Star” (still a class newspaper) and in 1954 became the 3rd form newspaper. In 1955, it became “the Sydney High School Newspaper” and took on members beyond the original form (the class of 1956). This was when John Pilger (of class 3D), who was from the year below the founders, joined the staff of the “Feature Section”.
