The fifth annual sports meeting of the Sydney High School Amateur Athletic Association was held on the Association cricket ground yesterday afternoon, under favourable auspices. The day was fine, but the tracks were not in the best condition, the ground being very much soddened by the late rains. Notwithstanding this, good time was made in most of the races, notably in the One-mile Open Walk, which was done in 7 minutes 24 seconds. Judging by the attendance, which must have numbered 4000 people, the club has not lost any of its past popularity, and, in point of numbers, the meeting was the most successful of any held during the present season. [A lengthy programme was presented, and the manner in which it was got through reflects much credit upon the officials, who worked together, and lost no time. The running and walking was very good, in many instances equalling our professionals. The sack race lapsed, through want of sacks.] During the afternoon the Britannia Band, under Bandmaster J. Drew, performed a number of choice selections, and their efforts were very successful.
Appended are the results:—

300 Yards Ex-students' Handicap.--G. W. Morgan, 30 yards, 1; [George] Wynne, 8 yards, 2. No time taken. [This race was run twice, the first time there being a mistake about the start. Morgan, who had a very soft thing on, won easily on each occasion, Gleave aud Moir, 8yd. each, running a dead heat for second on the first occasion. In the second run, Wynne, 8yd., came second, about 10yd. behind Morgan.]

The positions of the men were unchanged until the first mile had been negotiated, when Whatmore was ahead, Pearson 60 yards behind second, and the others in a bunch, M’Donald being last. At the end of the sixth lap the leader was passed by Hitchcock, and some 100 yards further on Evans gave up. The order when two miles had been covered was Hitchcock, Kerr, and M'Donald. The others had retired. Kerr passed Hitchcock at the tenth lap with a brilliant rush, but 200 yards from home Hitchcock again assumed the leadership by a wonderful spurt, and won by six yards. Time, 11 minutes 7 1-5 seconds.
220 Yards Strangers' Handicap.--J. H. B. Goden (Univ. A. A. C.), 25 yards, 1; S. L. Rudder (Univ. A. A. C.), 20 yards, 2. Time 22 3-5 seconds. [A large field started for this race, and there was much consequent crowding, but none of the runners could come near the winner, who went away from the start, and, increasing his lead all the way, won very easily by half-a-dozen yards.]
880 Yards Open Handicap.—S. Montgomery, 45 yards, 1; R. Mitchell, 14 yards, 2; M. Freeman, scratch. 3. Time, 2 Minute 27 seconds.
