The fourth annual sports meeting of the Sydney High School A. A. C. was held on Wednesday afternoon, on the Association Cricket Ground, and was a most successful affair. An excellent programme had been prepared, and this with the additional attractions of fine weather, and the prospect of some good music from the Balmain Coldstream Band, drew a large number of spectators to the ground, including, of course, many of the friends and relatives of the pupils. The officials worked zealously to bring the sports to a satisfactory termination, and their endeavours were crowned with success. The School Championship, distance 100 yards, was won by C. P. Watt in 11 seconds, and the All Schools Championship, distance 220 yards, by A. N. Miles in 23 3-5 seconds.
The Daily Telegraph, 16 May 1889, p 6:
An interesting programme of events was negotiated, the "card" including a couple of strangers' races — one foot and one bicycling. The former was won by W. T. Macpherson, of the Sydney Harriers, off scratch, after a fine bit of running; the latter falling to J. Edgar, who was closely followed home by George Whatmore. The official management of the majority of the events was very faulty, though fortunately no disputes arose.
Following are the results of the various events:—
120 Yards Handicap, under 14.— H. Bishop, 1yd., 1; J. Gough, scr., 2; R. Dixon, scr., 3. Time. 15 2-5sec.

Evening News, 16 May 1889, p 8:
Two protests were entered against A. N. Miles, viz., for not belonging to a bona-fide school, and for changing his ticket with another runner so as to get inside place. These two protests have been referred to the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association.
