Annual sports meeting, 18 May 1892
The Spectator (Sydney), 22 May 1892, p 8:
HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.
Under the most favorable auspices, as regards weather, the seventh annual sports meeting of the Sydney High School took place on the Association Cricket Ground on Wednesday afternoon. It is a notable fact that each succeeding year witnesses a distinct advance in the character of the sport provided at these gatherings, upon which the club merits hearty congratulation. The attendance was a large one. The championship of the school was won by R. Forsyth, whilst A. Fitzhardinge succeeded in annexing the 220 yds handicap for the school cup. Forsyth is credited with having accomplished the 100 yards in 10 3-5 secs., and if the time was correctly taken, he must be regarded as a very promising performer. Six yards outside evens is not done every day on a grass track by men in the amateur ranks. S. Chalmers, 240 yds, scored a win in the Mile Walk, the time being 8 min. 35 secs. — only a mediocre performance. In the Three Mile Bicycle Race, Wally Kerr added another victory to the long list achieved by him in the past, fighting out a game finish with E. Vider, to whom the little champion was conceding 400 yds start.
Evening News, 19 May 1892, p 6:
A start was not made until half past 1 o'clock, by which time there was a fairly good attendance, the youngsters predominating. The weather was beautifully fine, and Ned Gregory's arrangements were so perfect that the events followed rapidly and in good order.
